Black Walnut is generally straight grained. It has rich dark brown heartwood, and nearly white sapwood. The color is dark brown, but true black walnut has an amazing contrast in sunlight -- it can have hints of grey, black, and even blue swirled out of the luxurious grain. It is generally 30-40% more expensive than oak hardwood.
