Blackened Oak
Blackened Oak uses a deep stain on natural red oak, giving the deep, mysterious color found on antiques. The grain and heartwood begin to meld together.
Please note that blackened Oak displays some variation in color depending on factors outside of out control (how well the individual board takes the wood finish, ambient humdity, etc. Blackened oak may not match the wood sample as closely as our other stain choices, and may vary by as much as half a shade.
Red Oak is the standard for furniture building. It is a solid, sturdy wood that is uniform in texture and color. Its grain is relatively large, and takes on colored stain quite well. With age, its color will change take on minor amber tones. This is a minor change in color. Its species name is Quercus Rubra. Its Janka rating (hardness and resistance to scrapes, gouges and cuts) is 1260.
