The lancaster cedar chest is a simple design, with a flat lid and flat panels that allow the beauty of the wood show through.The lancaster chest is designed to have one of four different bottoms, which further modify the appearance of the cedar chest.

Harmony chests have the steady lines of the distant horizon, rounded into a gentle recline like the land of southern Minnesota. The designis based on midwestern architecture and aesthetics (the Prairie style), and is inspired by the open fields and majestic skies of the Upper Midwest.

Colonial Style Chest

The colonial cedar chest presents a rustic style, with ridged panels that emulate the look of a piece created from rough-hewn lumber

Dowry Style Chest

The three-legged design of the dowry chest is complimented by a short skirt, with a gentle cove that marks the transition between the bottom and the body. The lid is flat, creating a line of symmetry through the center of the chest. In keeping with traditional designs, the Dowry Cedar Chest is also very tall. This done primarily to make the cedar chest easier to access bending over, but is also done to make it more visible by bringing the cedar chest off of the floor. It is representative of the gentle beauty and elegant functionality of a typical dowry chest made by Russian-German Mennonites. This was a cedar chest that would be used to hold a woman's prized possesions for her wedding day.
